BBC Proms

A specially curated programme, featuring a trio of pieces inspired by the wonders of the sky, opens with the BBC Philharmonic, under the baton of John Storgårds, in Strauss's Also Sprach Zarathustra. Judith Weir's Moon and Star follows, performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Singers and Ryan Wigglesworth. The evening finishes with a debut performance by the Spanish National Orchestra in Ravel's Alborada del gracioso, conducted by David Afkham.

Actor Nick Mohammed journeys through the Proms archive to celebrate the music that transformed people's view of the universe. Featuring Richard Strauss's Also sprach Zarathustra from 2001: A Space Odyssey, Gustav Holst's The Planets, John Williams's scores for Star Wars and ET the Extra-Terrestrial, Hans Zimmer's Interstellar and Max Richter's On the Nature of Daylight, heard in Arrival.

Petroc Trelawny presents from the Royal Albert Hall as Thomas Adès conducts the National Youth Orchestra on a musical journey to the underworld and back. The programme opens with Liszt's Mephisto Waltz No 1, a whirlwind score based on Nikolaus Lenau's epic poem Faust, followed by Adès' own Dante - Part 2: Purgatorio, the central act of his Grammy Award-winning ballet. Fresh from his surprise appearance during the World Cup Final half-time show, Gustavo Dudamel leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in its first Proms appearance for more than two decades. Beethoven's Seventh Symphony, hailed by Wagner as 'the apotheosis of the dance', is paired with Gabriela Ortiz's Revolucion diamantina, a score inspired by Mexico's 2019 'glitter revolution'. Katie Derham presents a celebration of moments that made Proms history, with landmark premieres and remarkable debuts, including the first appearances of artists, orchestras and even instruments. Featuring a Betsy Jolas debut inspired by Shakespeare's Tempest, music from the Spanish National Orchestra,, soprano Angel Blue's triumphant first appearance, and the first accordion soloist to grace the Last Night of the Proms stage with Ksenija Sidorova's rendition of Piazzolla's Libertango.

Clive Myrie presents a night at the Royal Albert Hall in tribute to the legendary trumpeter who would have celebrated his centenary in 2026. The concert combines the musician's influences - works by Rodrigo and Gershwin - with his own hits from classic albums such as Porgy and Bess, Sketches of Spain and Miles Ahead, amongst others.
