Commesse

"Commesse" also known as "Shop Girls" revolves around Marta, Roberta, Fiorenza, Paola, Lucia and Romeo - six very different people work together in an elegant fashion boutique in the centre of Rome. They are all in thrall to the demands of the overbearing manager, Francesca. Each character knows that between the dramas of their own lives, the journeys to and from work, the children to care for, husbands, lovers, parents - that they will find solidarity with their fellow shop workers. This quintessentially Italian series has screened twice on SBS television it is classic soap opera material, but with many colourful flourishes, and some surprising sub-texts in plots.
