Die merkwürdige Lebensgeschichte des Friedrich F. von der Trenck

Adventurer's life subject of new TV series Baron von der Trenck 18th Century courtier, soldier, spy and adventurer is the subject this adventure series. The series, based on the memoirs of this extraordinary man who was one of the more interesting figures of his time, is also named after him.

The Baron started his career as a cadet in the Prussian Royal Guards, but soon had to flee Prussia after a romantic involvement with the sister of the king.

His naturally impetuous ways interfered with his multi-faceted life, and much of his life was spent in prisons from which he made a number of brilliant escapes.

Eventually, after a very full and exciting life, he fell victim to the French Revolution which began on July 14 1789, and perished on the guillotine.

Playing the part of the colourful Baron is Matthias Habich, and the series, directed by Fritz Umgelter, was produced by Transtel, the West German television network.
