The year is FC60 (Fighting Century), a full 60 years after Earth was wrecked and the nations created new colonies in space. The control of Earth has been given to the strongest nation, meaning every 4 years, each colony sends a Gundam and their best pilot down to Earth to battle in a tournament for dominance over their old dominion.
