“Gimik” debuted on Saturday night, 15 June 1996 as a Comedy, Drama also known as a Dramedy series on the Philippines "ABS-CBN" TV network on Channel 2. The story revolved around 10 teenagers from the Philippines. This show was said to be a rip-off of the teen series “T.G.I.S.” on the competing "GMA" TV network. The teenagers are all trying to cope with the trials and tribulations of being adolescence. The teens as the series moves along get to know one another and become a big group known as a click as their lives intertwine with each other. The series was a cheap imitation of "T.G.I.S." but did have a large following in the beginning with great ratings. The show slowly declined in viewership and after 3 seasons its’ final episode aired on 10 February 1999. On 12 June 1999 the network aired “Gimik, The Movie” also called “Gimik: The Reunion” where 7 of the original teens had graduated college a year ago and all reunited to relive the old days together. According to some sources the word “Gimik” supposedly is a teenage slang word for casual or leisurely activity that is done away for the home, mostly in malls.
