Gypsy scrap metal worker John finds himself in a tight spot when the falling price of scrap leaves him short of cash to buy a special gift for his daughter. Meanwhile at the Durham fair, gypsies have gathered from miles around to celebrate their culture and make money from horses, and two traders do battle selling carts and harnesses.

John has been given the responsibility of driving a horse-drawn wagon at the funeral of an old friend, but has his work cut out navigating the cart through the busy streets as he tries to make it a smooth journey.
