No one was better at solving puzzles than Los Angeles police detective John St. John. That's why he was handed the nickname "Jigsaw", as his amazing deductive abilities and interpretation of clues led him to solve a series of baffling murders. Sam Donner was St. John's younger partner, and Maggie was an elementary school teacher whom Jigsaw dated.
"Jigsaw John," starring Jack Warden in the title role, a police action drama series suggested by the career of veteran Los Angeles Police Department Investigator John St. John, was colorcast on the NBC Television Network beginning Monday, Feb. 2, 1976 from 10 to 11 p.m.
The title character is nicknamed "Jigsaw John' because of his painstaking construction of homicide investigations piece-by-piece as in a jigsaw puzzle. The series was filmed largely on location in and around Los Angeles.
Co-starring with Warden in the series, created by Al Martinez, is Alan Feinstein in the role of Jigsaw John's partner, Sam Donner. Like John, Donner is an unconventional, painstaking worker whose highly independent mode of operation rubs many in the police hierarchy the wrong way.
Pippa Scott plays the role of nursery school teacher Maggie Hearn, Jigsaw John's patient girlfriend, who realizes his devotion to his job supersedes their personal relationship.
Each episode of "Jigsaw John," produced by Ronald Austin and James Buchanan for MGM Television in association with NBC-TV, was based on a single homicide investigation. Bruce Geller is executive consultant for the series, and investigator St. John serves as technical consultant.
