Domenico "Mimmo" Dodaro, a labor inspector known for his integrity, moves to Lucca with his daughter Mimì after the death of his wife. Hosted by Alessandro, a family friend who was paralyzed in the same accident that killed Domenico's father, they find support from their relatives. While Mimì and Alessandro try to help him rebuild his life, Domenico tackles new cases and uncovers a shocking truth about his father's death that puts him in danger.

Renato, a worker at the Carrara marble quarry, was found lifeless on the ground. According to the quarryman's foreman, a block crumbled and Renato fell, but Domenico noticed one detail: the victim's hair was wet, as if the body had been moved after the tragedy.
