He rebuilt ancient Egypt's religion completely, reestablishing Karnac with its temples, priests, and religious rites. It was a complete religious counter-revolution. Excavations include tombs at the Dra' Abu El-Naga necropolis near Luxor and a temple near Hermopolis Magna.
