In Tasmania the Country Womens Association was established in Launceston in 1936, and its members have been raising money to aid rural communities ever since. CWAWhilst cooking and handicrafts are the first things that come to mind when we think about the CWA, their "tea and scones" image conceals their real intent. In this report: Leslie Riley and Barbara Cregor, members of the South Eastern Handcraft Committee.
It's the Country Women's Association, (these days known to its members as Chicks With Attitude). Theirs is the bond that binds rural Australia together through the greatest adversity they've known in their eighty five year history.
With intimate and moving interviews with members of the Country Women's Association (as well as recipes and cooking guides), "Not All Tea And Scones" will provide a sensory feast as we follow the journey of a small group of women through the rounds of judging and on to the finals at Narrabri. Along the way we will form a powerful bond with the women - many of them farmers, lawyers, accountants, teachers, nurses and cooks - and we will celebrate their resourcefulness and grit as they shoulder rural Australia through its darkest decades of decline.
