Maria Clara is about to marry her boyfriend Carlos. They don't have a lot of money, and shortly before the wedding, he loses his job. Torn, he decides to go to Miami to get a job in America to earn enough money so he can marry his beautiful sweetheart. Maria Clara remains in Caracas with her mother. When her mother dies of a heart attack, she decides the only thing to do is to go to Florida where Carlos is. When she finds him, she discoveres he has met a wealthy woman who has put him in charger of her hotel chain and he is about to marry her.
