Marvel Comics' most memorable character, Spider-Man (Spidey for short), got the star treatment in animation in 1967. This cartoon premiered at around the same time as The Fantastic Four and the Marvel Superheroes Hour. The theme song is one of the most memorable television theme songs ever, and has been re-recorded plenty of times.

When high school student Peter Parker is bitten by a radioactive spider at a lab demonstration, he finds himself owner of some new powers, namely the proportionate strength, speed, and agility of a natural spider, plus a sixth "spider"-sense that enables him to sense danger, and the ability to climb on walls.

Peter goes on television as the Spider-Man, and his fame and ego swelled with his first taste of success, to such an extent that he fails to stop a burglar running through the studio. A few weeks later, his Uncle Ben is murdered, and as Spidey later finds out, the studio burglar is the killer, though Peter blames himself for failing to stop him.

Peter then becomes a photographer for the Daily Bugle a New York newspaper that almost always features Spider-Man. Spidey himself captures and defeats as many criminals as he can (ranging from such "criminals" as a jewel thief to Doctor Octopus to an alien ice creature), and almost always leaves behind his trademark note at the scene of the crime, a note that reads, "Courtesy of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman."

The show went off the air in 1970, and was collected into the 6-disc DVD set entitled "Spider-Man: The '67 Collection".
