The Comedians was a stand up comedy series which aired on ITV in the United Kingdom. The countries best unknown club comics were given their first chance to appear on television. The early series created household television names including Jim Bowen, Bernard Manning and Tom O'Connor.
The series was created by Johnny Hamp. Audiences grew tired of the formula after three years and the show came to an end in 1974. Three later revivals of the series then followed but none matched the success of the early years. Broadcast dates for some of the series varied in different ITV regions.
