This BBC show featured Martin 'at large in the studio with a number of companions' and gave ample space for the comic to exercise his deft ability at creating gags and funny stories around contemporary events - indeed, his trademark was to wander on stage holding a newspaper, from which, while smoking a pipe, he extrapolated jokes from the day's stories.
George Martin is not to be confused by the Beatles producer Sir George Martin.
