The Things They Left Behind

Originally published in 2003 (and eventually included in King's short story collection 'Just After Sunset'), 'The Things They Left Behind' centers on Scott Staley, a man who survived the 9/11 attacks by virtue of taking that day off from his job in the World Trade Center. Racked with survivor's guilt, Scott soons finds the missing belongings of his colleagues that perished in the disaster appearing in his apartment. After confiding in his neighbor Paula, the two figure out that Scott has been drafted to complete the unfinished business of his co-workers.
