S2025E96 - Episode 96

7am: New escalation of what the Trump administration calls a war against drug cartels in Venezuela. President Trump declared the airspace above and surrounding Venezuela to be closed in its entirety after he warned the U.S. could expand their attacks from alleged drug trafficking boats to possible land operations. Plus, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reportedly gave an order to "kill everybody" on the first Caribbean boat strike. And, both the Senate and House Armed Service Committees say they will amplify their scrutiny of the strikes on alleged drug boats in the Caribbean. Marc Polymeropoulos, former CIA Senior Intelligence Service Operations Officer and MS NOW National Security and Intelligence Analyst, joins "The Weekend" to discuss.

8AM: After multiple wins in races across the country earlier this month, the party is hoping to ride that momentum to another victory in a surprisingly close race between Democrat Aftyn Behn and Republican Matt Van Epps. 9am: Four democratic congressmembers are among the group of lawmakers under investigation by President Trump's DOJ and FBI after they urged military personnel to refuse "illegal orders." They released a statement in response saying, "No amount of intimidation or harassment will ever stop us from doing our jobs and honoring our constitution." Plus, Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell is suing Trump's Federal Housing Finance Agency Chief over mortgage fraud allegations and accuses him of abusing his position to go after Trump's critics. Congressman Swalwell joins "The Weekend" to discuss.

7am: The US conducted another strike Thursday, this time in the Eastern Pacific. It came as lawmakers continued to address video they were shown Thursday of the controversial first strike of the campaign in September, which resulted in a so-called "double tap" strike that killed two shipwrecked survivors. Laura Barrón-López and Alexander Ward join The Weekend to discuss the fallout from the recent attacks.

8am: A federal grand jury dealt the DOJ a rare defeat this week when it failed to reindict New York Attorney General Letitia James. But a source tells MS NOW that the Justice Department could try to bring criminal charges of alleged mortgage fraud against James for a THIRD time. Plus, the DOJ is considering charging former FBI Director James Comey two weeks after the initial case was thrown out on the basis that Trump's interim US Attorney Lindsey Halligan was unlawfully appointed. Liz Oyer, former DOJ Pardon Attorney and Federal Public Defender, and Brendan Ballou, former Federal Prosecutor and former Lawyer with the DOJ National Security Division, join "The Weekend" to discuss.

9am: Shifting responses from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth regarding the first missile strike against the alleged drug boats raise major questions about the legality and morality of the military operation. 7am: Hegseth gave his unequivocal support of the controversial first strike in the operation which resulted in a so-called "double tap" strike that killed two shipwrecked survivors. It comes amid increasing strutiny over that September 2nd strike after lawmakers were briefed this week by Admiral Frank Bradley, and shown the full unedited video of the strike. Lt. Col. Daniel Maurer joins The Weekend to discuss the fallout of the boat strikes and Hegseth's response.

8am: The Agriculture Department announced that it's planning to withhold federal funding for food stamps in Democratic-led states that have refused to share sensitive personal data about recipients. The group of Democratic states have argued against sharing the data because they are concerned it could be used for other policies like immigration enforcement. Hawaii Attorney General Anne Lopez and Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel are two Democrats who are fighting back against the Trump administration. They join "The Weekend" to discuss.

9am: A deadline is approaching for the results of a review into Arizona Democratic Senator and retired Navy Captain  Mark Kelly after comments he made in a video urging service members not to obey any illegal orders from the Trump administration. Senator Mark Kelly joins "The Weekend" to discuss.
