Out of the blue, the five Devlin children turn up at their Uncle Roy's - having been thrown out by the rest of their aunts and uncles. Roy, an anthropologist, is not happy at the prospect of them staying. He lives happily in his flat full of weird, exotic plants and animals, and the kids find him distinctly weird. But they have no choice, it's either living with him or being taken into care. Will they succeed in persuading him to let them stay?
