NBC Nightly News (titled as NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt for its weeknight broadcasts since June 22, 2015) is the flagship daily evening television news program for NBC News, the news division of the NBC television network in the United States. First aired on August 3, 1970, the program is currently the most watched network newscast in the United States, with an average of 9.3 million viewers, just a few thousand more than its nearest rival, ABC's World News Tonight. NBC Nightly News is produced from Studio 3B at NBC Studios at 30 Rockefeller Center in New York City.Since 2015, the broadcast is anchored by Lester Holt on weeknights, Jose Diaz-Balart on Saturday and Kate Snow on Sunday. Previous weekday anchors have included David Brinkley, John Chancellor, Tom Brokaw, and most recently Brian Williams. The program is broadcast live over most NBC stations from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time seven days a week; a special "Western Edition" of the program occasionally features updated information on news stories covered during the original telecast for Pacific Time Zone viewers. Its current theme music, "The Mission" (which debuted in 1985) was composed by John Williams.

The House passed sweeping legislation that delivered on a number of President Trump's campaign promises. But, some Senate Republicans have indicated they may not support it. NBC News' Ryan Nobles reports. President Trump's Make America Healthy Again commission released a long-awaited report about the health of children in the United States. It pointed to four major causes of chronic health issues: ultra-processed foods, environmental toxins, sedentary lifestyles and the overprescribing of medicine. NBC News' Tom Llamas spoke with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The Trump administration is escalating its battle with Harvard University, blocking the university from enrolling international students. More than 6,700 currently enrolled foreign students would need to transfer or lose their legal status. In a statement today, Harvard called the government's action 'unlawful.' NBC News' Garrett Haake reports. Two Israeli embassy staffers were shot and killed outside the Capitol Jewish Museum by a gunman who chanted ‘Free Palestine.' The FBI called it an act of terror. The two victims were planning on getting engaged. NBC News' Aaron Gilchrist reports and NBC News' Tom Winter with more on the investigation. Authorities say overnight two people died and eight were injured after a private Cessna jet crashed into a California neighborhood. At least 100 residents were evacuated after the crash. Investigators are at the site, working to determine the cause of the crash. NBC News' Liz Kreutz reports from the scene. Grammy-winning musician Kid Cudi testified in the trial of Sean ‘Diddy' Combs, offering testimony about his time dating Cassie Ventura and subsequent interactions with Combs. More than 45 million Americans are expected to travel at least 50 miles this Memorial Day weekend according to AAA. NBC News' Erin McLaughlin reports on the best times to travel to avoid the worst of the congestion. President Trump said if iPhone production is not moved to the United States, he would slap a 25% tariff on the popular product. NBC News' Peter Alexander reports he also said would impose a 50% tariff on goods from the European Union beginning June 1. Singer Billy Joel announced that he has been diagnosed with a brain condition called Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus. The Grammy winner said he was canceling his remaining tour dates. NBC News' Anne Thompson has the story. A day after the Trump administration ordered Harvard to stop admitting international students, a federal judge temporarily blocked the ban. NBC News' Andrea Mitchell reports in a filing, Harvard called the order a "blatant violation" of the Constitution. After a group of Army instructors on boats in the Florida panhandle allegedly fired rifles with blank rounds in front of a crowd, they have been temporarily decertified according to a military spokesperson. NBC News' Jesse Kirsch reports. A court filing reveals details about the way the suspect behaved in the fatal shooting of two young staffers at the Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C..
