NBC Nightly News (titled as NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt for its weeknight broadcasts since June 22, 2015) is the flagship daily evening television news program for NBC News, the news division of the NBC television network in the United States. First aired on August 3, 1970, the program is currently the most watched network newscast in the United States, with an average of 9.3 million viewers, just a few thousand more than its nearest rival, ABC's World News Tonight. NBC Nightly News is produced from Studio 3B at NBC Studios at 30 Rockefeller Center in New York City.Since 2015, the broadcast is anchored by Lester Holt on weeknights, Jose Diaz-Balart on Saturday and Kate Snow on Sunday. Previous weekday anchors have included David Brinkley, John Chancellor, Tom Brokaw, and most recently Brian Williams. The program is broadcast live over most NBC stations from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time seven days a week; a special "Western Edition" of the program occasionally features updated information on news stories covered during the original telecast for Pacific Time Zone viewers. Its current theme music, "The Mission" (which debuted in 1985) was composed by John Williams.
During a visit to the White House, El Salvador's president Nayib Bukele said he does not have the power to return Kilmar Abrego Garcia to the United States. Garcia is a father of three who had been living in Maryland and was recently deported to El Salvador. The Justice Department has said it was due to an "administrative error". NBC News' Gabe Gutierrez reports the White House now says he was not mistakenly deported. The man accused of breaking in and setting fire to Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro's residence over the weekend admitted to "harboring hatred" toward the governor, according to court documents, and is facing charges including terrorism, attempted homicide and arson. NBC's Shaquille Brewster reports. President Trump signaled he would impose tariffs on pharmaceutical drugs and semiconductor chips. After announcing this weekend that some electronics, including smartphones, would be exempt from "reciprocal" tariffs, the White House now says those goods will actually face a different category of tariffs. NBC News' Kelly O'Donnell reports many shoppers are now weighing when to make big purchases. NTSB investigators are still on scene examining the wreckage of an air tour helicopter for clues to what caused last week's deadly crash, hoping divers can find key pieces of evidence that may answer why the chopper crashed into the river killing all 6 aboard. A federal judge demanded to know what the Trump administration has done to comply with a court order to return Kilmar Abrego Garcia to the United States after he was deported to El Salvador. At a bipartisan conference in Chicago focused on preserving social security benefits, the former President made his first public appearance. Authorities released new body camera video from inside the New Mexico home where legendary actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead in February. Federal judge James Boasberg slammed the government for failing to comply with his court order to temporarily halt removal flights to El Salvador. He wrote "probable cause exists to find the Government in criminal contempt." NBC News' Gabe Gutierrez reports it comes as the administration released new documents about Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was recently deported to El Salvador. The White House says the documents show he was affiliated with the MS-13 gang. New surveillance video from inside the school shows the moment police allege 17-year-old Tracey Haynes Jr. opened fire. The teenager, who is considered an adult in the Texas legal system, was booked on suspicion of aggravated assault mass shooting. Newly released search warrants show police believe the attack on Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro's home was politically motivated. The court documents suggest the suspect was upset with Shapiro's position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The family of U.S. pastor Josh Sullivan says he's alive after being rescued late Tuesday. Sullivan was abducted by a group of men at his church as he was leading a prayer service. Police say they killed all three suspects who attempted to flee. NBC News' Keir Simmons has more. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F.
