Investigator Demidov, investigating this case, promises himself to find the maniac, since he himself has two daughters. However, after some time, he discovers that the maniac is much closer to his family than it might have been expected.
In a small taiga town, a little girl from a dysfunctional family disappears. Investigator Demidov senses something is wrong and plunges headlong into the investigation. He also has a tense situation at home: both daughters are going through a difficult teenage period and dislike their father's new wife.
Kristya is found dead. Demidov tries to get the truth from her younger brother and suddenly plunges into painful memories of his childhood, and Zimin suspects he has cancer.
