In the iconic fishing town of Gloucester, Massachusetts, many boats are done for the season. But there are two crews still fighting to land monster tuna and keep their family businesses going through the winter. As the weather worsens, the fish get bigger and the stakes get higher. These monster tuna can weigh more than 1,000 pounds and are reeled in the old fashion way – by hand – making it the ultimate battle of man versus beast. It's all hands-on deck as these fishermen risk everything to bring home a monster payday.
To keep their family businesses afloat, two Gloucester fishing boats band together in their hunt for giant bluefin tuna, battling the rough North Atlantic to land fish that could be worth upwards of $20,000.
Eighteen-year-old Captain Danny Smith Jr. makes his mark on the fleet with a massive tuna, but sparks fly when a veteran twice his age joins the crew. Capt. Johnny Johnson's attempt to attract tuna results in a shark frenzy.
Captain Johnny gets off to a hot start with a jumbo tuna, but everything changes when all fishing is shut down; to make up for lost time, the Subdivider and Julia Nicole gamble on new grounds.
A perfect storm hits Gloucester, pitting man versus nature as Captains Johnny Johnson Jr. and Danny Jr. hunt for a final score. With time running out, Danny Jr. lands a jumbo tuna that may save his family's season.
