The US House of Representatives voted today to oust its Speaker for the first time in history. When Speaker Kevin McCarthy failed to keep his leadership post, his 269-day speakership became the shortest in more than 140 years. The House must now elect a new speaker, but no clear alternative has the support needed to win the gavel. McCarthy said Tuesday night he will not seek the speakership again.
