The story begins with Logan, played by Jim Broadbent, an old man in his 80s who, having suffered a heart attack, begins to put his life in order
Working as a journalist during the Spanish Civil War, Logan confides in Hemingway, knowing he must make decisions about Freya and Lottie
After the tragic deaths of Freya and Stella, Logan is remarried to Allanah and living in New York
Logan emerges from his coma and is discharged from hospital. But times are hard and he resorts to eating dog food.
