Badehotellet is the story about the guests and staff at a beach hotel by the North Sea sand dunes. At the heart of the story is the lives of three young people, the chambermaid Fie, the merchant's daughter Amanda, and the local fisherman Morten. Their fates are intertwined, and their stories are about emancipating themselves from the plans other people have made on their behalf, the attempts on social ascent, and about losing and finding oneself on the way. The series is inspired by the way of life at the many seaside hotels of the past, and reflects our own time with its mixture of financial crisis, denial, and dreams of happiness. The story takes place in the years 1928-33 where the world is falling apart. The characters will go through tears and laughter in the captivating journey that takes place as times change from optimism to crisis. It's a multi-plot-series that dynamically shifts between upstairs and downstairs, and between seriousness and humour.
Summer 1932. It's been a year since Morten gave the hotel to Fie, but she has almost not seen him since, because he is collaborating with Madsen on the construction of a big building in Copenhagen. But the regulars have made their appearance at the hitel. The family Madsen, Mr. Weyse, Mrs Fjeldsø and her sister, and Mr. Aurland with his wife and sons, as well as the Frigh family. However, without Mr Frigh, as the couple is in divorce, so Mrs Frigh prefers for him to stay away. In the middle of the idyll, the Copenhagen stock broker August Molin arrives with his Swedish wife, and Weyse is immediately taken by Mrs Molin. A dangerous game, for Mr. Molin holds a violent jealousy, and it's not the only secret that Mr Molin is hiding.
Wholesaler Madsen is close to finalizing the purchase of the cheap timber that Molin has suggested to him. Meanwhile, Molin is trying hard to hide that he is on the edge of bankrupcy and that the timber does not belong to one of his clients, but to himself, bought for the client's money and without his knowledge. At the same time, Molin must make sure that his beautiful wife stays away from Weyse. Meanwhile, there are good things for Amanda, who sells an idea for a commercial with Weyse. Meanwhile, manufacturer Frigh arranges a croquet tournament, Edith comes face to face with the man she once dreamt of, and Fie's sister, Ane, demonstrates that secrets are not reserved for hotel guests.
The distinguished stock broker August Molin has been hit by nervous stomach. The sale of the building timber from Jutland to Madsen drags out, so today is definitely the last chance, to avoid revealing Molin's fraud against his senile client. Mrs. Alma Molin has tried to forget their problems and is looking forward to recording Amanda's commercial down on the bech. Weyse has also agreed to participate without knowing that the recordings will wake old emotions to life, which he thought was forgotten in the past. Finally, Valter tries again to court Edith. Mr. Aurland discovers Otilia's great interest in literature and comes with a surprising proposition to the sensible maid.
Little Severin has been stung by a wasp, but Weyse is sure it's a snakebite and believes it requires action. Morten also wants action after Madsen has bought Molins building timber from Jutland, but the meeting between the two companies is different than Madsen has feared. And then Edith has fallen in love with up over both ears. Impatiently for Otilia, who wants to whistle to the bliss. Otherwise, peace between Molin's spouses, after successful wood sales and the prospect of an even greater profit, will succeed in helping Frigh. Finally, Fie is faced with a very dilemma when Miss Duelund in the hats business finds that Ane has lied to her.
