Bara no Jyujika

Togo is married but unhappy because he has no children with his wife and she shows no interest in having a child. He directs television commercials for a living and a friend sets up a meeting with a model for him because she might be right for a commercial he's making. By mistake, Togo begins a conversation with another woman he thinks is the model. As they talk, Aki tells him she isn't interested in marriage, but she'd like to have a child and asks if he'd be the father. After this first meeting, they see more of each other as he thinks over her idea and decides he wants a child with her. They agree they won't see each other after Aki gives birth.

Four years later, Aki returns to Japan from the United States where she's been studying. She has been raising Togo's son, Seiji, by herself. Togo accidently sees them and yearns for contact with his son. When he tries to help Aki, she objects, but eventually makes him meet Seiji. Togo is taken with the boy and wants to leave his wife to be with Aki and their son, but his wife finds out and decides to fight back with family and friends on both sides trying to come between Togo, Aki and Seiji.

The English translation of the title is Cross of Roses.
