Frank Cobb was a widower with two children, Sarah and Charley. That is until he met and married Annie Pfieffer who was a recent divorcee from New York City. Annie had a daughter, Zoe, who was the same age as Frank's daughter Sarah, therefore the two constantly fought one another.

The couple decided they were tired of living the hectic life and left San Francisco to move to Eagle Falls, Oregon where Frank was originally from. There he would help his father Henry run the family's sawmill.
