The presenter and one-time Rolls Royce engineer fulfils a lifetime's ambition to visit the monuments of Ancient Egypt in a bid to understand how it could have been possible to produce such 'wonders of the ancient world' 4,500 years ago. An expert guide is on hand to lay out the mainstream thinking and act as the perfect 'foil' for Bradley and his theories.
The presenter challenges traditional beliefs about ancient Egypt. Here, he considers the riddle of the Great Sphinx - its provenance and its ancient symbolism, which experts have long argued over. He also contemplates the suggestion that it is even older than hitherto thought.
The presenter sets out to uncover the mysteries of King Tutankhamun. Along the way, he encounters the enigmatic 'Alien King' Akhenaten and his wife, Nefertiti. Sailing down the Nile, he investigates how the Ancient Egyptians transported enormous stone blocks for their architectural marvels, including the 700-ton Colossi of Memnon. His quest then leads him into the Valley of the Kings, where he discovers the resting places of Akhenaten and King Tut's successor, Horemheb - before finally coming face to face with the mummy of the Boy King himself.
