The U.S. nuclear-powered, multimission, supercarrier the USS Nimitz is the subject of this 10 part, 5 episode series titled “Carrier”. This series was filmed on the Nimitz from May to November 2005 a total of over 2,000 hours of footage. The show was taped while the carrier was on a 6-month deployment to the Persian Gulf. Three of the 6 months the Navy was deployed included 3 months of combat support for our U.S. ground troops.

The Nimitz is one of the largest battleships in the Navy at 24 stories high and over 3 football fields long at a length of 1,092 feet. There are over 5,600 male and female military on the ship and it carries 85 military aircraft.

The series will cover the whole gambit of navy life from the deployment where the sailors say goodbye to their families, their faith, their patriotism, their love, their honor, the rites of passage and the war on terror itself. The series is scheduled to run nightly on PBS TV every night of the week for 2 hours, from 9 to 11 PM, EST from 27 April through Thursday, 1 May 2008.
