In Celebrity Race Across the World four celebrities and their racing partners will race to a finish line that's thousands of miles away – without the use of air travel or any trappings of modern-day life. Stripped of all mod-cons and all luxuries they will have to rely on their skills, cunning, ingenuity, and hard work in order to succeed. Without the use of credit cards, smartphones or access to the internet and with just the cash equivalent of completing the route to their final destination by air, they will have to earn extra money along the way as well as call upon the kindness of strangers to help them progress. This incredible journey will give a unique insight into the celebrities and their relationships with their travelling companions.
The teams race from the surf mecca El Zonte on the Pacific coast across the entirety of El Salvador, known as the land of volcanoes, before entering Honduras to reach the third checkpoint, the colonial mountain town of Valle de Ángeles.
The teams travel through the breathtaking beauty of Costa Rica, a country that contains five per cent of the world's biodiversity, before reaching Panama, the seventh country of the race.
The next checkpoint is Bocas del Toro, an archipelago off Panama's Caribbean coast.
It's the penultimate leg of the race and the longest so far. The teams must travel from the islands of Bocas del Toro on northern Panama's Caribbean coast to Medellín, Colombia's second-largest city. Standing in their way is the notorious and dangerous Darién Gap. Their only option is to bypass it by sea, enduring a lengthy, arduous and costly boat journey, putting their dwindling budgets under pressure.
On reaching the final country of the race, each pair is confronted with another challenge to overcome: a heightened security risk on the route to Medellín. Who will reach the checkpoint first to secure pole position going into the final leg?
It's the series finale, and the teams must race from Medellín, Colombia's second-largest city, in an epic push of over 1,000km to the finish line on the Guajira Peninsula, the northernmost region of South America. They can either cut a course inland or follow the tourist trail along the Caribbean coast.
After 33 days and nearly 5,900km, which team will triumph and be the first to sign the all-important guest book and be crowned the winners?
