A group of women just trying to do their jobs at the 510th Evac Hospital at China Beach Vietnam in 1967 includes cool but callous Army nurse Colleen McMurphy, naive Red Cross newcomer Cherry White, singer Laurette Barber, and cynical civilian worker/prostitute K.C. Koloski. They are trying to cope with the horrors of war which are never far away from the base and deal with their own lives.
Sam Beckett is in charge of the Graves Registration Unit and therefore doesn't make friends easily, at least not ones with heartbeats. Everyone volunteers to help break Beckett out of his bizarre world of the dead. Lt. Price, a criminal investigating officer, is looking for a deserter by the name of Filmore Cross. Unfortunate for Cherry White, Filmore Cross has roped her into his web of treachery. Cross is brought to justice, once Cherry realizes he is an imposter and a military deserter; she turns him into Lt. Price.
