Hideki finds the discarded and malfunctioning Persocom Chi, a personal computer that looks like a girl. While trying to fix and care for Chi, Hideki discovers that she might be a Chobits, a robot of urban legend that has free will.
Hideki Motosuwa moves to Tokyo to live a cram school life there. When he arrives at his apartment, he is delighted to find that the manager, Chitose-san, is beautiful, and that his neighbor, Shinbo, is a computer savvy friend who attends the same cram school. Then, at night, when he finds a persocon discarded in the trash, he picks it up and goes home, but...
