Mother Julia moves into her new boyfriend Taco's house together with her 2 daughters Mies and Kees and son Guus. Taco also has 2 daughters (Zimbini and Lotus) from his previous marriage with Moon, and a son (Max) from a relationship before his first marriage.
That is a big change for everybody in this newly "put toghether" family. How do you handle different parenting styles, different norms and vallues, frustration, sadness over a divorce and the new bonus family members ?
And to make matters even worse for Julia, her ex husband Dennis who was absent most of the marriage because he chose his work over his family, now decides he has to be there for the kids, and buys the houseboat directly opposite the street from Taco's house.
Julia needs space for herself. She accepts Dennis' offer to temporarily live with her children on the houseboat. The children protest vehemently. Julia doubts whether she has made the right decision. Moon is fed up with not having a job and being forced to move back in with her mother.
Julia struggles with the break in her relationship while trying to manage the chaos of her family and work. Taco tries to accept the new situation, but feels increasingly distant from Julia. Moon helps Max in his search for his mother. Su throws herself more and more into her work.
Julia visits her father with Mies to commemorate the birthday of her deceased mother. Meanwhile, Taco tries to build a better relationship with Max. Dennis causes a ruckus on social media and seeks help from Zimbini, Kees and Moon.
Julia feels left out when she notices that Taco and the children are having fun without her. With his father's help, Taco gets hired by a trendy consulting firm. Meanwhile, Kees gets into trouble. Julia and Taco decide to go out for dinner together to discuss their relationship.
Julia and Taco have secret nighttime adventures. The children find out and organize a family intervention. Zimbini and Kees secretly drink alcohol. Meanwhile, Max finally gets his biological mother on the phone.
Julia visits a psychologist because everyone thinks she is in crisis. Taco receives bad news at work. Dennis wants to know how long Julia intends to continue living on the houseboat. Zimbini and Kees have an argument. Julia decides to cancel the vacation plans.
Julia and Taco are about to break up for good. Dennis drags Taco along to a carnival party to change his mind. Guus and Lotus make secret plans to save the situation.
After an accident, Guus ends up in the hospital, where Julia and Dennis watch over him with concern. Taco continues to support Julia, even though their relationship is officially over. Julia has doubts about her decision to move back to Amsterdam. Mies struggles with her poor school performance.
