Journalist Nora Sand works as a foreign correspondent for a Danish newspaper, spending most of her time in London. She's at the peak of her career when she's accused of having had an affair with one of her sources in a big case. Nora gets suspended, travels home to Denmark in order to lie low until the scandal has cooled off. But when she's given an anonymous tip about an old missing people case, she can't resist. In the 80s, two young girls disappeared from the ferry travelling from Denmark to England and have not been seen since. Nora investigates the case, which turns out to have an unexpected connection to serial killer William Hix, who is serving a life sentence in England. As the case unravels, Nora begins to fear for her own life, as she suspects another killer is following her every move…
Nora Sand, a renowned journalist, travels home to live with her father after being suspended from the newspaper she's working for. While Nora has sworn to her editor to lie low, a young girl goes missing from a nearby town.
Nora discovers a possible suspect overlooked in the original investigation. Kurt Damtoft, the girls' former handball coach, was ruled out by the police, but Nora discovers dark secrets about his past.
The recent missing person case bears strong similarities to the Lisbeth and Lulu case. With the new evidence, everything is set for the police to reopen the investigation, and Nora hopes to finally get answers about the missing girls.
Nora receives an unexpected call from a British investigator. Bill Hix is serving a life sentence, convicted of several murders on young women in England. He says he has new information about the missing Danish girls.
When the DNA test results from the remains found in England come back, everyone is baffled. Has Hix offered up another false confession? Nora begins to pursue new leads suggesting that Hix may have an accomplice.
With Damtoft ruled out, Nora finds herself back at square one in the case. However, with the help of her former researcher, she uncovers an overlooked clue in one of the photos of Lisbeth and Lulu, leading them to a significant discovery.
With Nora missing, her researcher Emily and local police officer Andreas take over the investigation. Time is running out-will they find Nora before it's too late?
In a dramatic showdown, Nora comes face-to-face with her kidnapper. At last, the gruesome truth about Lisbeth and Lulu's fate is revealed. But will Nora's quest for answers cost her her life?
