First Take (aka: ESPN First Take) is a weekday sports talk show co-hosted by Stephen A. Smith, Max Kellerman and Molly Qerim who are joined by regular contributors and special guests. The show includes daily sports news, interviews with sports journalists, athletes and personalities, spirited debates, and an assortment of other topics. The show debuted 7 May 2007 as "Cold Pizza".
First Take begins with Cam'ron's return! Two Knicks fans and Big Perk debate if the world champs are America's team now that they finally won a chip! Then, James Dolan begged his team to make a 10-week sacrifice for the duration of the playoffs. He asked them to eat healthier, become solely basketball focused, and give up... other things. Is it safe to say the long hated Knicks owner has fully redeemed himself? Next, Bradley Wright-Phillips gives us his World Cup picks!
First Take resumes with next season's NBA championship odds. The Knicks are 4th behind SAS, OKC and BOS! Should the reigning champs feel immense disrespect from oddsmakers after easing their way to a title? Then, Giannis is on the move...soon!! Where should he WANT to go? Next, did James Dolan take a subtle shot at Thibs when he said "you needed a coach that would pull you together," or are we reading way, way too much into this quote?
First Take resumes with all-time New York athletes. Jeter, Eli, and Rivera hold a permanent spot on the Mt. Rushmore. Did Brunson just steal Clyde's spot? Then, the Morris twins debate Dybantsa vs Peterson. Who's going first overall? Next, after a star studded World Cup night that saw Haaland, Messi and Mbappe score multiple goals, Roger Bennett tells us who the favorite is a week in!
First Take resumes with Jalen Brunson's stardom! He's made all-NBA teams the past 3 years, and now has a ring and a Finals MVP! Has he cemented himself as a top 5 NBA player? Then, mandatory minicamps means mandatory Cowboys drama! Are we sure that George Pickens is fully bought in this year? Next, Mad Dog is MAD at the Spurs, and Steve Cohen for sitting courtside at the Knicks game!
First Take begins with Stephen A.'s missing parade invite! It must've gotten lost in the mail. We're debating next year's title favorites, KAT's upcoming contract, and James Dolan's latest comments on the salary cap! Then, does it make sense for the Lakers to bring back LeBron? Next, is Giannis even worth multiple first round picks anymore?
First Take resumes with Jalen Brunson changing the NBA forever. By winning a championship after taking a massive pay cut, will other NBA stars feel pressure to do the same? Then, can Messi put an end to the soccer GOAT debate with another World Cup title? Next, back to Brunson! Has he changed the way we'll look at small guards forever. It used to be "you can't win a title with a small guard as your best player." Should we lay that adage to rest?
First Take begins with a look back to a time before the Knicks won thieir elusive title. We can't forget how this team was overlooked. The Brunson signing was detested, and pundits loathed the Mikal trade! Then, Sean Farnham tells us which rookies will make an immediate impact. Next, a preview of the US's mighty matchup against Australia!
First Take resumes with new Brunson narratives. Can we remember how good he was this entire postseason when ranking players for next season, or will be put Donovan Mitchell ahead of him again? Then, which star is under the most pressure to win a title now? Time is ticking for Luka. Ant's supposed to be the face of American basketball, but he can't get one either. Next, are we overthinking this entire Darryn Peterson saga? Should the Wizards just draft him first overall?
