In the town of Umai in the Altai region, the daughter of a local official goes missing. Her belongings are found in the forest near the town. A search team is being prepared to search the taiga.

Belova and Terekhov are trying to get information about the murder scene from Tonka. But the girl is acting strangely.

Belova helps Terekhov get out of another scrape and sends a voice message with critical information about Tonka's parents, which could have a significant impact on the case.

The operatives continue to search for the criminal. They find the warehouse where the furniture for the lair was purchased, but they are unable to identify the final customer.

A tangle of secrets is gradually unraveled, and the stakes become deadly high. Belova and Terekhov, step by step approaching the solution, find the criminal's hideout – and are horrified to realize that Tonka has been kidnapped. 

Investigators Belova and Terekhov take Grek and the shaman into custody. The latter gives a vague tip: Alym was killed by a certain Maxim Vorontsov. The case takes a new turn when Grek's eldest son arrives at the department, accompanied by a family lawyer.
