The drama series Greenleaf takes viewers into the unscrupulous world of the Greenleaf family and their sprawling Memphis megachurch, where scandalous secrets and lies are as numerous as the faithful. Born of the church, the Greenleaf family love and care for each other, but beneath the surface lies a den of iniquity - greed, adultery, sibling rivalry and conflicting values - that threatens to tear apart the very core of their faith that holds them together.
The news of Grace Greenleaf's return to Memphis breeds tension.

Bishop Greenleaf attempts to give Senator Banks the runaround in regards to the church's finances. Mac threatens to blackmail Mavis in order to stop Grace's investigation.
When the mayor decides to cash in a favor with Bishop Greenleaf, hoping to find one black church to support the local law enforcement community, he gets put in a tight spot that could cause a rift within the church. Through the course of her investigation, Grace gets blackmailed by an old acquaintance of Faith's. Charity spills the beans about her pregnancy to Lady Mae. Kerissa and Jacob start going to counselling sessions in an attempt to save their marriage.

With the Bishop unable to attend church one Sunday, he appoints Grace to be the pastor – much to Lady Mae's horror and Grace's protests. In an attempt to get reinstated in the church, Jacob starts working on getting the services televised and promptly gets jealous when the television executive takes a liking to Kerissa. Charity's plans to get a new music director after Nigel leaves backfires and ultimately forces Kevin to face his deep-seated issues. James reaches out to Mavis and has a heart to heart with his sister-in-law. Lady Mae confesses about feeling guilty about Faith's death.
On the day he's set to receive the Memphis Man of the Year award, Mac juggles a variety of tasks for the Greenleaf clan.
Grace reaches out to Officer Nelson while also working with Noah in an effort to find evidence against Mac; Lady Mae is suspicious of Grace and Noah; Jacob presents his TV plan to the Bishop; Lady Mae pushes the Bishop to reveal a secret; and the Bishop deals with a woman who is out to destroy Calvary.

Grace thwarts Mac's attempt to blackmail the Bishop; and deals with Sophia's father, Ray, who has doubts about Grace's parenting. In other events, Charity, who's fed up with being disrespected, finally speaks up.
The church is losing money and members; Ray seeks custody of Sophia; Jacob's offers to help Calvary are declined; and Kevin gets closer to Adrian.
Grace, Ray and Sophia go to court; Basie, the Bishop and Jacob discuss an opportunity at Triumph; Deacon Sykes wants to hold a "women's day" at a smaller venue; Adrian gets the wrong idea about his lunch with Kevin; Mavis has problems with her club; and Kevin shares his feelings with Charity.
