In this short-lived series based on the DC Comics character, Christopher Chance is the ultimate bodyguard if you can afford his price. A master of disguise, he will take your place if someone is trying to kill you, and take the shot instead. Once he survives--if he survives--Christopher will bring in the killer.
Christopher is hired by a psychologist who believes that one of his patients is trying to kill him.
Christopher takes the place of an unjustly convicted man in prison, but must face his own crushing claustrophobia from his time in a tiger cage in Vietnam.
Christopher has to return to help a friend of the family, a judge who believes his life is being threatened. However, the Human Target has to deal with his father, who doesn't think much of his cover identity.
When a reporter's life is threatened after she goes after the leader of a doomsday cult, her cameraman contacts Christopher and the Human Target takes his place... and starts to fall in love with her.
