Kujima: Why Sing, When You Can Warble?

One autumn day, on his way home from school, Shin encounters a strange creature searching for coins under a vending machine. The creature, who claims to be from Russia, introduces itself as Kujima and says it wants to eat delicious Japanese food. Shin takes Kujima home and ends up making tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelet) for the first time in his life.

While Arata heads to school and Miyoshi and Masaomi go to work, Kujima stays home. He relaxes in the living room and reads a proverb dictionary until lunchtime, when he tries to make yakisoba, but it doesn't go well. Seeing Kujima's struggles, Ei begins to describe the situation using proverbs...?

Makoto, Shin's childhood friend, came to the Kouda house. Makoto said she had come to see Kujima, but contrary to her expectations, Kujima spoke in a loud, human language, making her doubt if he was really a bird. Meanwhile, Kujima also started saying things in Russian that sounded like he was picking a fight. Shin stepped in to mediate and tried to get the two to shake hands and make up.

Remembering her life with Maxim, Kujima becomes homesick and says she wants to go back to Russia. Shin accepts her feelings, explains the situation to Miyoshi and Masaomi, and the family decides to send Kujima off. On the day of her departure, Ei thanks Kujima. Meanwhile, Shin regrets telling Kujima she could go home…

A kotatsu (heated table) was set up in the Kouda family's living room. Kujima, completely captivated by it, spent most of his days under the kotatsu and ended up getting quite plump. Meanwhile, Arata, who had been playing around instead of studying since Kujima arrived, finally got his comeuppance on his final exams, scoring only 38 points. He decided to invite Makoto over for a study session.

For three days over the New Year's holiday, everyone in the Kouda family except Ei went to their paternal grandparents' house. Kujima enjoyed the rural end of the year, taking walks in the mountains and eating New Year's Eve soba noodles, and borrowed Shin's cell phone to call Ei. The next day, Kujima choked on a piece of mochi that he had been sneaking a bite of while the mochi was being made. Shin's aunt, Ruiko, appeared just then.

Shin realizes he's forgotten his winter break homework in the classroom, so he decides to take Kujima with him to retrieve it. To avoid suspicion, Shin has Kujima wear a horse mask and suit as a disguise, and they successfully accomplish their goal. However, on their way back, the teacher happens to run into Kujima...!?

As the Common University Entrance Examination approaches, Ei sighs constantly and seems distracted. Arata is worried about her, but Ei returns to her usual self after arguing with Kujima. A few days after the Common University Entrance Examination is over, Kujima confides in Arata, saying, "Ei has been making a scary face lately."

When Shin woke up, snow had fallen and the surroundings were covered in a blanket of white. Seeing Kujima's excitement, Shin taught him about Japanese snow games. At the same time, it was revealed that Ei had failed all of his private university entrance exams. Disturbance spread through the family, and Shin regretted how he had been nagging Kujima. Shin went to apologize to Ei, but…

It was the day of the acceptance announcement for Ei's dream university. Ei seemed restless and couldn't bring herself to look at the results. Kujima offered to look for her, but Ei refused, steeling herself for the outcome. Meanwhile, Arata, anxious to find out the results, hurried home as soon as school ended. What Arata saw when he got home was Kujima dancing ballet gracefully in the living room.

Spring has arrived, and Arata realizes that his time to say goodbye to Kujima is drawing near. Worried about Arata's sadness, Makoto comes to visit the Kouda family. Makoto suggests they go cherry blossom viewing in the mountains together, but Arata is reluctant and tries to refuse. However, Makoto half-forcibly takes Arata and Kujima out with her.

The day finally arrived for Kujima to depart. Shin put away the futon, Ei and Masaomi taught Kujima origami, and Miyoshi prepared rice balls; each member of the Kouda family made their preparations to see Kujima off. And then, the moment of farewell finally arrived. To Kujima, who had tears in his eyes, Shin said, "We're only going to be apart for six months," and "Six months will fly by."
