The Teiko Middle School Basketball Team. The class that produced three perfect seasons in a row, with five once-in-a generation players, called "The Generation of Miracles." There was another player who all of them respected... A legendary 6th player. An up-and-coming power player, Taiga Kagami, is just back from America. When he comes to Seirin High School, he meets the super-ordinary boy, Tetsuya Kuroko. Kagami is shocked to find that Kuroko isn't good at basketball, in fact, he's bad! And he's so plain that he's impossible to see. But Kuroko's plainness lets him pass the ball around without the other team noticing him, and he's none other than the sixth member of the Miracle Generation. Kuroko makes a pact with Kagami to defeat the other members of the Miracle Generation, who have all played basketball at other schools. A battle of light (Kagami) and shadow (Kuroko) begins!
After defeating Yōsen High, Seirin is interviewed for Basketball Monthly. The final quarterfinal will feature a showdown between Kise and Haizaki, with the winner moving on to face Seirin in the semifinals.
Kise and Haizaki face each other head-to-head for the right to advance to face Seirin.
Even Kise, who has a variety of moves thanks to his Copy skill, starts to run out of stock moves as the game progresses. Furthermore, the fierce game pace puts Kise's leg close to its limit.
The final four of Winter Cup has finally been decided: Rakuzan, Shutoku, Seirin, and Kaijo. However, on the day of the semi-finals, Kuroko and Kagami both realized their basketball shoes were broken.
The first semifinal match is between Shutoku and Rakuzan. The offense and defense are both at high levels, creating a see-saw game, but the tides shift in the second quarter.
The first semifinal match continues and Akashi performs an ankle break on Midorima.
Rakuzan wins with the score of 86 - 70 against Shūtoku and Seirin warms up for their match.
The Seirin-Kaijo game finally begins.
With the defense and offense reversed now, Seirin goes on the offensive.
Kagami shows extraordinary growth and treats the Kaijo double-team as if it is nothing, overwhelming them as their ace player Kise remains on the bench. Kaijo stays determined to stay within reach of Seirin, but they cannot stop the momentum that favors Seirin and start to gradually fall behind.
Kaijo fiercely fights back with the return of their ace player Kise. The crowd goes wild from their all-out efforts to make a comeback and all start to cheer only for Kaijo.
Seirin begins the counter attack using their run-and-gun method, suprising the Kaijo players and the audience.
Kagami dangerously continues using up his stamina in the zone, Riko swaps Kuroko for Mitobe so that Kagami can focus on offence.
Seirin subs in first-year Furihata to lure Rakuzan, but he quickly gets tired after facing Akashi.
The third quarter starts with Kuroko remaining on the sidelines.
