From falls on the fells to mountainside mishaps, the Lake District Mountain Rescue Association head out to bring home the lost, injured and stricken.
The Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team helps a man with a dislocated shoulder at the Eskdale Pools. Even after being administered advanced pain relief, the man is still in agony and miles from the nearest road.
The team attend a man who has slipped while crossing a stream and is left with a bone sticking out of his arm. In Wasdale, an emergency call has come in for a man with a badly broken leg on the Corridor Route to Scafell Pike. Darkness is closing in, and the first challenge is to locate the casualty. Leaving him on the hill in plummeting temperatures would be life-threatening.
The Coniston Mountain Team are summoned to help a paraglider who has crashed landed at the top of Great How Crag with potentially paralysing neck injuries. Meanwhile, a man has gone missing around the flooded tunnels of a disused quarry at Hodge Close.
A fallen scrambler with head and neck injuries is precariously lodged at the edge of a waterfall for several hours and moving him threatens further problems. But with the cold mountain water bringing him close to hypothermia, the team has little choice. On the other side of the Lakes, a local marathon brings its own challenges as temperatures soar towards 30 degrees.
