The middle-level match of the loser's bracket, a mock game of "17 (Seventeen) Poker," begins. Nao takes part in the mock game herself, learning the detailed rules while being scolded by Fukunaga. It's basically the same as poker, but the big difference is the presence of the "joker," which is incredibly powerful. The outcome of the game depends on whether or not you have a joker in your hand, so you'll be in trouble if you play with the same mindset as in regular poker. So Nao suggests marking the cards to control the game. However, new cards are used every time, making card cheating impossible, and Nao suffers a crushing defeat in the mock game, receiving a severe reprimand from Fukunaga. Meanwhile, her opponent Kikuchi reports that he has found a surefire way to win, and asserts that this method can only be used by him.
Kikuchi uses his natural advantage to get the upper hand on Akiyama.
