Sasha, an excellent student at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, is facing a difficult ordeal — serving in the most disadvantaged area of Yugodonsk. He hopes to find his father there, whom he has never seen, a true legend of the criminal investigation department. However, instead of the exemplary hero, Sasha meets his complete opposite, the "Little One." An experienced operative has long established life in the city on the principle of "live by yourself and let others live" — for the sake of his own convenience, the "Little One" turns a blind eye to minor offenses of local residents. Sasha faces an almost impossible task: to solve complicated cases and re-educate his father, a partner who has long been accustomed to solving everything according to his own rules, and not according to protocol. Will Sasha be able to prove to his father that in their work it is impossible to simultaneously serve the rule of law and negotiate with those who constantly violate it? And most importantly, which will win in the end: the law or your own concept of justice?
The young man is given two interns who are nothing like the proper Sasha — he's happy about it, until a real crime happens. Gorynych asks Sasha to improve the clearance rate for Ilyukha and Antokha: they get the case of a cultivator theft, and during the investigation, Sasha realizes he was very wrong about the brothers.
Sasha's mother comes to Yugodonsk to bring her son back to Moscow, but she is robbed at the station. Maloy and Sasha get to work — the father is using illegal methods to the fullest, and Sasha is seriously considering going back home. Gorynych leaves Borya in charge, and he realizes that he doesn't have any authority among his colleagues.
Svetlana Gennadyevna secures Gorynych's dismissal and gains official authority over Maly. She sends Sasha to arrest the Watcher on a fabricated charge. Maly, out of a sense of justice, helps the innocent Watcher escape and becomes an accomplice himself. Liza and Robert come to the Watcher to inform him about the wedding.
Maloy is on the run, and crime is on the rise in the city. For Sasha, catching his father is a personal matter: he finds him and the Watcher in Angela's apartment, but Maloy doesn't give up and tries to prove to his son that Svetlana Gennadyevna set him up.
