Araragi Koyomi is a third year high school student who is almost human again after having briefly become a vampire. One day, a classmate named Senjougahara Hitagi, who infamously never talks to anyone, falls down the stairs into Koyomi's arms. He discovers that Hitagi weighs next to nothing, in defiance of physics and common sense alike. Despite being threatened by her, Koyomi offers her help, and introduces her to Oshino Meme, a middle-aged homeless man who helped him stop being a vampire.
During the month of October of his third year in high school, Koyomi Araragi is introduced to a transfer student named Ougi Oshino, who tells him she has something to consult with him. This reveals a tale that brings to light "what" makes Koyomi Araragi.

Koyomi is confronted by Shinobu's first minion, the original apparition killer. But instead of starting a battle, the samurai makes a simple request.
As Koyomi prepares for his duel, he learns of the crisis that Hanekawa is facing and must decide what battle he should fight.
