The NBA Draft is an annual event dating back to 1947 in which the teams from the National Basketball Association can draft players who are eligible and wish to join the league. These are typically college basketball players, but international players are also eligible to be drafted. College players who have finished their four-year college eligibility are automatically eligible for selection, while the underclassmen have to declare their eligibility and give up their remaining college eligibility. International players who are at least 22 years old are automatically eligible for selection, while the players younger than 22 have to declare their eligibility. Players who are not automatically eligible but have declared their eligibility are often called "early-entrants" or "early-entry candidates". The draft usually takes place near the end of June, during the NBA offseason.

NBA Draft 2021 presented by State Farm® will take place on Thursday, July 29, beginning at 8 p.m. ET. The first round will be televised by ESPN and ABC, and the second round will air on ESPN.
The NBA also announced additional key dates relating to NBA Draft 2021 presented by State Farm®:
> NBA Draft Combine: Subject to evolving public health conditions, Microsoft Surface NBA Draft Combine 2021 is scheduled to take place Monday, June 21 through Sunday, June 27. ESPN networks plan to televise the NBA Draft Combine, with coverage featuring five-on-five games and strength and agility testing.
> NBA Draft Lottery: NBA Draft Lottery 2021 presented by State Farm® will take place on Tuesday, June 22, airing on ESPN at 8:30 p.m. ET.
> NBA Early Entry Application and Withdrawal Deadlines: The deadline for an early entry player to apply for this year's NBA Draft is Sunday, May 30 at 11:59 p.m. ET. The deadline for an early entry player to withdraw from the NBA Draft is Monday, July 19 at 5 p.m. ET.
The NBA Draft will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The NBA Draft emanates from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The San Antonio Spurs are set to make the first pick in the NBA Draft for the third time. The Charlotte Hornets franchise is set to pick second overall. The Portland Trail Blazers are set to pick third overall. The Houston Rockets are set to pick fourth overall. The Detroit Pistons are set to make the fifth pick. The Orlando Magic has multiple picks in the Lottery (Nos. 6 and 11). The Indiana Pacers (No. 7) are set to pick in the top seven. The Washington Wizards are set to make the eighth overall pick. The Utah Jazz (No. 9 pick).
The first round will be held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., home of the Brooklyn Nets. The teams eligible for the Draft Lottery are the 14 teams that miss out on the NBA Playoffs. After drawings are conducted for the first four picks of the NBA Draft, the other lottery teams will continue to pick in inverse order of their regular-season record. The Draft selections for the remainder of the first round (No. 15-30) and the entire second round (No. 30-58*), are determined by reverse order of regular season record. Each NBA team gets one selection in the first round and one selection in the second round.
The second round will take place at ESPN's Seaport District Studios in New York.
