Password is an American television game show which was created by Bob Stewart for Goodson-Todman Productions. The host was Allen Ludden, who had previously been well known as the host of the G.E. College Bowl. The game play is simple: a single word, one after the other, and typically unrelated to each other, is revealed via clues that are also one word each, with few restrictions. They sat at a modified news desk. No game board was used aside from hand held cards, slide up cards from the desk, and on screen graphics. A point is deducted after each incorrect guess. The first team to get ten points participates in a Lightning Round. Cash prizes are awarded after each successful guess during Lightning Rounds. Initially, it was not allowed to return to skipped words. After its run on the C.B.S. Network, Password returned this time to the A.B.C. network with expansions: A simple 15 second Gamble Word is added at the end of every Lightning Round. Towards the end of its second run, it tried an All Stars format which cost it its production, even after dropping the All Stars format. They included an on screen Reality Style process of elimination from four contestants to two before playing the next round. It was replaced by Showoffs. Most episodes of Password no longer exist. Despite being only one year available in color, there seems to be a very large amount of color episodes as the first five years of Daytime episodes made before that were scrapped. The A.B.C. version was also mostly scrapped. Its successor, Showoffs, was also scrapped entirely. It would be revived as Body Language with future Password Plus host Tom Kennedy, while Password given another opportunity also. They have been reran since then.Regular panelists include Betty White, Allen's wife, also production assistant. Also Elizabeth Montgomery, Bill Cullen, Tom Kennedy, Nipsey Russell, and Kate Jackson.
