Robin Hood (1953)

The first television series ever based on the adventures of legendary outlaw Robin Hood, the series served as Patrick Troughton's first star vehicle. The series ran for only six weeks in March and April 1953 but was quite popular. Unfortunately, none of the six episodes of the series exist in the BBC archives as they wiped in the early 1970s. The same is also true of Troughton's later and far more widely known series, Doctor Who, as well as numerous other BBC series of that vintage. As was common with many British television programmes of the day, it was broadcast live.
