Runaway Island

This is a heart-warming story of three sets of guests who descend on a lush Gullah Sea Island to escape the woes of their personal lives. The guests include an affluent Capitol Hill grandmother (Lorraine Toussaint) and her wayward college age grandson (Leon Thomas III), a successful pastor (A. Russell Andrews) and his first lady wife (Erica Tazel) overcoming the recent passing of their child, and a media socialite (Melanie Liburd) whose engagement to an NFL star (Thomas Q. Jones), threatens to ruin her well-cultivated bad girl image. All of the guests are suffering through somewhat dysfunctional relationships with each other, arriving at this island resort for much needed vacations.
The quaint and beautiful resort, steeped in Gullah culture, is managed by an interracial husband and wife (Branton Box and Aisha Hinds) who spend their lives running the business, raising their “wiser-than-her-years” teenaged daughter (Herizen Guardiola), and living a simple, wholesome existence. Their slow-paced, holistic lifestyle forces the island’s visitors to examine the strengths and weakness of their current relationships, and their own insecurities, while taking stock of their lives and renewing their loves for one another.
