To the casual observer, there's nothing remarkable about Sylvia. An intelligent, confident woman, Sylvia tends to keep quiet about her formidable linguistic abilities, impressive knowledge of weaponry, and skills as a markswoman. Questions about her professional life are met with bland answers about an unspectacular career in the Civil Service. Which is only very slightly true – because until recently, Sylvia was a high-ranking British spy.
When an old foe abducts Sylvia, she must draw on her formidable reserves of physical and mental resilience to escape. While Riva investigates through official channels, Henry and Isabel run their own covert operation, all of them racing to save her.
After a winery owner confides that someone wants him dead, Sylvia discovers the man murdered in his vineyard; Riva and Barzini follow the evidence while Sylvia probes the Lazzarini family's secrets, drawing her dangerously close to the killer.
A powerful couple finds a dead stranger in their bed, launching Sylvia into a puzzling murder case; as she uncovers a property scam and an illegal casino, an unexpected confession leaves Sylvia questioning who the real killer is.
A friend's brutal murder sends Sylvia searching for answers, but the arrival of her wounded ex-husband puts her loyalties to the test; while tensions with Riva reach a breaking point, Sylvia closes in on the killers and faces an agonizing choice.
