Season 2 / Episode 16 and airs on 27 March 2018 01:00
Superior Donuts is a comedy about the owner of a small donut shop that's located in a quickly gentrifying Chicago neighborhood. Arthur is a gruff, to the point Chicagoan who refuses to sell newfangled cronuts and macchiatos or renovate his dated shop that hasn't changed since it opened in 1969. That all changes when enterprising go-getter Franco fast talks his way into Arthur's life as his new (and only) employee, and convinces him that he can bring the shop – and Arthur – into the 21st century. Arthur's supportive regulars include loyal patron Randy, a cop whose late father was Arthur's best friend; her overeager rookie partner, James; Tush, a colorful customer who uses the shop counter as a makeshift office, where he keeps tabs on a variety of odd jobs via fax machine; Maya, a privileged grad-school student working on her Ph. D; and Sweatpants, Franco's longtime friend who's willing to dress as a donut to help drum up more business. Looking to cash in on the urban renewal is Arthur's over-caffeinated neighbor, aspiring real estate capitalist Fawz, who pushes Arthur on a daily basis to sell the building to him. With his business in jeopardy, Arthur grudgingly realizes that he had better embrace the change around him and that Franco could be exactly what he – and the donut shop – need to thrive.
Frustrated by Fawz's willingness to exploit Black History Month to make a buck, Franco invites Wheels Langdon, a former Negro League baseball player, to the shop to share his unsung story. Also, a suspicious Randy decides to investigate a mysterious woman Tush meets through an online dating site.
When Arthur hires Fawz's son, Abe, at the shop, Franco encourages the aspiring DJ to skip college and follow his dream – even though that's Fawz's worst nightmare. Also, Sofia must contend with unruly goats and other unexpected challenges while organizing the Uptown Winter Carnival, her first big event as the business council's new president.
When Franco discovers his new girlfriend, Tavi, is rich, he begins to wonder if she's only dating him to make herself look more progressive. Also, Arthur significantly raises the price of his donuts to help pay for a new boat motor and winds up attracting the hipster crowd he once rejected – and alienating loyal customers like Randy and Tush.
Randy, who just passed the detective's exam, is asked by her former supervisor, Ted, to talk to a female rookie who has filed a sexual harassment complaint against him. Also, Arthur's usual arrangement with a city health inspector to ignore violations in the shop goes awry when a new by-the-book inspector shows up.
Franco's girlfriend, Tavi, begins to wonder if he still has feelings for Sofia when he turns to her for advice. Also, Fawz dons a disguise and goes undercover to try and catch the culprit who's been stealing from one of his restaurants.
