Next Episode of Supermarket Own-Brands: The Big Taste Test is
unknown.
In this programme we ask one simple question: can you tell the difference between the brand and the own brands, and which do you prefer?Own brands used to carry a stigma. They were bland, boring and came in plain packaging. But now they have upped their game and are taking on the brands head on. The packaging often looks similar, and the names can be very cheeky. But when you strip it all back, can the taste match that of the brand? Some people refer to them as knock offs, others call them dupes… they are the supermarket own brands.
This episode is all about health. Own brands are showing that you can lose weight without losing too much cash from your wallet. And who better to lead our series of taste tests? The healthiest man in Britain of course - Mr Motivator. He's joined by a panel of three punters who will be trying everything from no-alcohol low-calorie beer to meatless meatballs. There's also a grudge match as Asda returns to defend their title against the king of ketchup, Heinz. Asda did it before with their ordinary ketchup, but can they repeat the impossible with their low-salt and low-sugar option? Plus, Morrison's porridge pots take on Quaker Oats. Can our panel spot the brand, and which do they prefer? So, if you want to be healthy without the big price tag, then this is a must watch.
It's Bargain Week! German retailers Aldi and Lidl are regularly voted Britain's cheapest supermarkets, so it stands to reason that you can get the best bargains there. But this isn't just about them taking on the lowend products and seeing if they can do it cheaper. They are going after the big boys with some astronomical savings. Also, this week: Aldi have an air fryer so cheap, you wonder how it is even possible. But can our panel spot the brand, and which do they prefer? Plus, own brands aim to prove cheap doesn't always have to be nasty when it comes to Bisto, Paxo or Colemans for your Sunday roasts.
Sweet or savoury? We've all got our favourites and this edition is all about cakes and bakes. It's probably the own brands toughest challenge yet. With the likes of Mr Kipling and Krispy Kreme, it's hard to imagine the own brands even having a chance. So how can a doughnut bought off the shelf of a supermarket compete with the mighty brands? And what about an own brand vegan sausage roll fare up against the now-famed Greggs vegan sausage roll? Lifestyle vlogger Sochima is joined by a panel of ordinary punters to see if they can spot the brands from the own brands and tell us which they prefer. Plus, a look at surprising tricks the supermarkets have up their sleeves to help keep the cost down.
